2008 Hong Kong International Youth and Children's Choir Festival

Hong Kong Treble Choirs’ Association had presented the 2nd HKIYCCF from 14 to 18 July this summer . More than 2000 choir members of over 30 choirs from Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, China, Taiwan and Macau participated in the Festival, joining competitions of 9 categories, 3 concerts, 7 clinics, 2 master classes and meeting the adjudicators in 5days.


Choirs of unique styles contested for the “Choir of the World”, “Outstanding Conductor”, “Jury’s Prize”, “Best Vocalist (Solo)” and other Grand Prizes in 2 solo and 7 choir competitions. Grand concerts were held as well. The World Youth Choir, a group of top singers from 33 countries, and Pyongyang Children’s Art Group were invited to perform in Hong Kong for the first time. Besides, the renowned Quinquefoil Multi-gentilitial Children’s Choir from Mongolia, the Hong Kong Treble Choir directed by Mr. Leon Shiu-wai Tong, and a new male a cappella group “Potenza” all gave wonderful shows.
On 18 July, the World Youth Choir, with the accompany by the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, International movie star Jacky Chan, other participating choirs of the Festival more than 1500 local students sang out “We Are Ready”, “Light the Passion, Share the Dreams”, and “One World One Voice”, the 2008 HKIYCCF theme song which was composed by Prof. Wing-wah Chan and filled by Mr. Roger Luk, in “The World Sing for Olympic” Concert at Asia World Expo to celebrate the Beijing Olympics. That Concert was recorded and broadcast globally by Phoenix Satellite Television.
